What is Literacy Lab?

Designed for struggling adolescent readers, Literacy Lab equips educators with structured, explicit instruction that helps students build the decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills they need to succeed. In my own school, this approach helped reduce Below Basic reading scores in 9th and 10th grade from nearly 30% to single digits!

Literacy Lab is a secondary elective class that uses an interactive hands-on approach to support students’ growth in their reading skills. The purpose of the class is to provide evidence-based instruction, grounded in the Science of Reading for students whose literacy skills are below grade level through structured literacy intervention in fluency, vocabulary, morphology, reading comprehension and writing.
